- Allmusic
- Allmusic is the definitive resource for music reviews on the Internet.
- Anime on DVD
- Anime on DVD.com is my premier source for DVD reviews and release information concerning all things anime. The site features a nearly exhaustive catalog of Region 1 anime reviews and a level of professionalism rarely seen in fandom. Other DVD regions are covered as well as manga and CD soundtracks.
- Florian Freundt
- Florian Freundt is synonymous with sprawling, awe-inspiring vector artwork. He/She does some other stuff (photography, application skins, web design, icons, etc.), but the gorgeous high-resolution vector artworks are what keeps me coming back. Florian's works feature an elegantly simple style that doesn't get lost in details and never needs an art degree to be interpreted. Freundt is all about smooth lines and simple shapes coming together like a well-formed piece of industrial art.
- Homestar Runner
- Let's get this out of the way first: Homestar Runner is an acquired taste. That said, most visitors will find the site either silly, wacky, or good fun. The Brothers Chaps use an eclectic blend of Flash animation and children's illustration book character designs to bring this Web sitcom to life. The comedic stylings of Homestar Runner and company include a mix of parody, slapstick, and subtle references all centered around the interactions between characters. It's quite a unique experience in both presentation and content.
- Hydrogen Audio
- Hydrogen Audio is the modern user's group for dedicated audio enthusiasts. Topics of discussion range from basic help and how-to's to highly technical discussions of compression models and listening tests. HA definitely caters to the initiated, but I also think it's a great place for beginners to learn about the basics of audio extraction and archival.
- Kingdom of Loathing
- An adventurer is you! This browser-based RPG is probably best known for its signature stick-figure graphics and over-the-top wit, but it's the surprisingly deep gameplay that keeps me coming back for more.
- M's Desktop Pictures (Mac Edition)
- Known only as M (henceforth M-san), the author of this page maintains a collection of original wallpapers themed around Apple products. The wallpapers always feature the same female character (name unknown) in different outfits modeling the latest gadgets in the world of Mac. M-san, and hence the website, is Japanese, but every wallpaper features a tagline in a whimsical Engrish style. Recent additions to the site now offer an additional 1280x960 resolution.
- Ningen
- One of my favorites. Nat consistently produces top-quality work. Her style favors clean and simple backgrounds that stay true to their source. (Resolutions up to 1280x1024)
- Piepmatzel
- Piepmatzel is a collection of web design best practices. All the sites look fantastic and they all adhere to web standards. It's a great resource when you're looking for inspiration in web design.
- W3Schools
- W3Schools is my first stop whenever I need to look up something related to XHTML or CSS markup. They provide easily navigable reference pages and examples exhibiting the use of most tags or styles.
- Wikipedia
- Wikipedia is the open encyclopedia; built for users, by users. Despite the lack of any formal expert backing, the quality of content found on Wikipedia is remarkably good--and it's not just ancient history. Recent events, pop culture icons, and technical topics can all be found in 460,000+ pages of content. It's a particularly valuable resource if you want to learn about something and you don't know where to start (relevant links are featured at the bottom of nearly every entry).
