Dodgeball Posted July 5, 2004 at 12:00 am

Mom and I went to see Dodgeball at the Northside Cinema One. I wasn’t initially very interested in seeing it, but it turned out to be a cute movie. I transcribed a couple more journal entries from China, but I didn’t make as much progress as I would have liked. I got sidetracked configuring and customizing ObjectDock to possibly replace Y’z Dock as my launch-bar.

Sci Fi Posted July 3, 2004 at 12:00 am

The Sci-Fi channel was having an action hero movie special today. I watched bits and pieces of Black Mask, Black Mask 2, and Kull the Conquerer. Of the three, Kull was probably most engaging. I thumbnailed and uploaded more of the pictures from China in between watching movies and reading manga from the “Love Hina” series. Only three days worth of pictures left to go!

Shrek 2 Posted June 26, 2004 at 12:00 am

I went to see Shrek 2 with Mom at Northside Cinema One. The theater was mobbed with kids. Mom made the comment that most of the humor would be over their heads and I tend to agree. This is true of a lot of Disney and Pixar films, though, too.

I finally found a happy medium between archiving audio CDs as a single image file or files for each track. I found that I could make an image file using Exact Audio Copy and then use foobar2000 to perform batch conversion to individual lossless files from the image CUE file. The resulting files can be decoded and recombined without loss using foobar2000 should the need to re-create the original CD ever arise. I also found The GodFather to be an extremely handy tool for tagging and organizing albums after conversion. It has some cool options for retrieving album data from the Internet (for tagging).

American Pie Posted June 24, 2004 at 12:00 am

A cute birthday card from the Roberts arrived today. I was a bit surprised that it wasn’t a handmade card. (Aunt Kathy usually goes all out.) I wanted to see that see was using the chop that I brought back to her from China.

Mom and I watched the network television edit of American Pie 2. I don’t think I’d ever previously watched it from beginning to end (just bits and pieces). The editing really didn’t detract much from the humor like I thought it might.

Harry Potter Posted June 13, 2004 at 12:00 am

Mom declared that we would be going to see the 4:30 p.m. showing of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban at the local Northside Cinema #1. It’s a crappy theater by modern standards, but it didn’t detract too much from an entertaining show. I haven’t read any of the Harry Potter books yet, but I did notice that the latest movie is much darker than the previous two and I’m told that this is the trend in the later books.
