With most of my work out of the way, I made it a true Saturday. With the arrival of another stack of manga on Friday, I was able to resume the excellent “GTO” manga series. “GTO” aside, I was absorbed in Morrowind for much of the day. It’s amazing how large the game feels and at the same time, how small it is in comparison to its predecessor Daggerfall. The latter truly defined the epic CRPG. Speaking of which, I noticed that Bethesda has released the first Elder Scrolls game Arena as a free download in celebration of the series’ tenth anniversary. It might also be worth checking out.
I met the ladies again for a nice lunch at the Vortex Bar and Grill. I had a chili-cheeseburger and onion rings. It made for a nice diversion from the usual routine.
The ECE department held its annual spring picnic today. This is the first time I’ve ever been. I didn’t see too many people I knew, though, so I didn’t stay for the whole thing.
Mom, Aunt Kathy, and Grammy were all in town today to see a play so I met them at Li’l Dino after my ECE lab for a late lunch. Actually, I was the only one who ate but we still had a good time. Aunt Kathy also found the “Chobits” 001 and 002 import CDs for me (thanks!).
After Japanese I had to get ready for the Tau Beta Pi initiation ceremony. I was already dressed up so this only involved putting on a tie, but that still took a good 45 minutes. The initiation ceremony was rather surreal and we had a banquet afterwards. I found another ECE major and chatted with him during the banquet. The whole thing wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.
When I got home I had a nice fat package from TRSI with twelve graphic novels that I ordered during a sale. The package got here much faster than I had expected so I was pleasantly surprised. I also think it’s the first time that nothing I have ordered from them has been backordered. I am particularly picky about the condition of the books I buy and every little crease or bend in the covers bothers me. Lately, I have been disappointed with the condition of books on the shelves in a lot of retail stores and it’s a welcome change to see all the books in perfect condition and so well packaged (TRSI packs each manga in it’s own thick plastic bag).
I turned in my project for Ancient Greece this morning. In the end, I did a series of sketches for various pieces of an urban plan that are derived from the characteristics of the typical polis in Hellenic Greece. I’m sure it pales in comparison to some of the other projects but I did learn something from my research so it wasn’t a total loss.
In the evening, I helped Dr. Callen prepare for his second FE exam review. It turned out that about all I had to do was get there early and move a few tables and chairs around, but it’s good for a service credit and that’s good enough for me.
I got up early, drank plenty of water, and submitted to yet another drug test to make sure that I meet the Fitness-for-Duty requirements of my employer. The test can only be performed on site and on weekdays so it’s always a huge hassle for me. After the test, I took off directly from the plant for Atlanta. Much of the drive was over SR-27, one of the emptiest highways I’ve ever been on in my life. On the other hand, it is probably the first place I would go if I wanted to unwind with an exotic sports car. I drove directly to campus and arrived with about an hour to spare before my first class of the day.
After our last ECE 4000 recitation of the semester, Titus and I trekked through the cold and damp to Li’l Dino for more of their great subs.
