We had a bit of unwanted excitement in the IT department this morning due to an air conditioning malfunction. The recorded temperature in the vicinity of the servers was over 98 degrees Fahrenheit when I arrived! Of course, this isn’t good for our equipment so I had to do what I could to get the temperature down until we could get some mechanics to work on the A/C. In the end, no equipment failed in spite of the toasty environment but the chocolate I left on my desk didn’t make it.
We ordered carryout from Outback for dinner. I had the Outback Special instead of my usual ribs.
Mom made some nice homemade waffles for breakfast. It’s just another one of those things I miss while living on my own. I went through and cleaned some of the junk out of my room. It was mostly stuff I probably shouldn’t have held onto at the time and has long since lost any relevance to me. I think just I’m the kind of person that will try to hold on to every little trinket or doo-dad that falls into my hands. Every once in a while I have to wade through all the junk and re-evaluate its usefulness. Doing so usually brings back some memories.
I continued X with DVD volume two and finished Chobits, Vol. 5.
We tried the new sub place Firehouse Subs this afternoon. Dothan seems to be growing out in our direction and we’re starting to see new restaurants and such opening shop closer to home as a result. Video Warehouse was having a sidewalk sale on their previously viewed movies and we managed to get five at $4 each. The selection wasn’t that great but it was a good deal all the same.
Most of my coworkers started taking vacation today so the department felt a little empty. I started deploying some of the PCs from the batch that we have been working on for the last few days.
I went to see The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King with Mom and Dad after I got off work. It was another excellent interpretation of one of the greatest literary works of the past century. I have a special appreciation for the Lord of the Rings films because I took a special elective course on it in high school. We read all three books and analyzed them at length over the course of a semester at ASMS.
I continue to work on new PCs at work. A fair number of my coworkers will be taking vacation starting tomorrow so some of us went out for a special lunch at City Cafe in Columbia.
One of my packages arrived today! I now have gifts for both Mom and Dad so I think I’m set. I thought about giving them something collectively since I’ve never done that before but I haven’t had any good ideas yet.
I started watching “X” this evening. It looks like some mythical battle between two opposing sides is about to start. Each side has seven Dragons who possess unique talents and are matched up against Dragons from the other side. The first DVD has an Episode 0, which contains a lengthy preview and provides a glimpse of all the many characters. Episode 0 suggests a rather complex and tragic series of events. I think this will be one to watch.
