Back to work Posted December 26, 2003 at 12:00 am

Christmas is over so it’s back to work, for me at least. There was only a skeleton crew on site for the day after Christmas. It’s a good time to work if you enjoy solitude. I’ve actually found, though, that I prefer not to work alone.

I finished both Inuyasha, Vol. 1 and Inuyasha, Vol. 2 before the end of the day. I was left with the impression that the anime stays truer to the manga than most. Some of my Vandread and Fruits Basket DVDs finally arrived from TRSI. They were initially backordered.

…and to all a good night. Posted December 25, 2003 at 12:00 am

I spent another very pleasant Christmas day with my family. Grammy and Granddad joined us for a nice semi-traditional Christmas day dinner. I’m becoming more and more aware of how time is affecting them, along with our dog Yo-Yo who recently turned 16, and it has changed my outlook during these recent family gatherings. I will try to enjoy each of these moments for as long as they can stick around. On a lighter note, I’m an iPod happier than I was yesterday, among other things. I gave Mom The Da Vinci Code and I gave Dad Digital Video Essentials. I also wanted to do something for both of them so I gave them some Outback gift certificates.

Holiday Cheer Posted December 24, 2003 at 12:00 am

Description

It’s that time of year again and the talented artists have put out some great holiday works. The one you see here is only one of the many I’ve acquired. What makes this one special is that the author has provided multiple version including a Mac edition. From someone who uses a PowerBook this extra bit of effort is more than welcome. Good desktop pictures at the PowerBook’s native resolution (1280×854) are all too rare.

The state of broken wireless Posted December 24, 2003 at 12:00 am

I spent far too much time trying to get my 802.11g wireless card to play nice with my 802.11b wireless router. The NIC is a Linksys WMP54G and the router is a D-Link DI-614+. The two refuse to acknowledge each other’s presence. The newer G wireless specification includes considerations for backwards compatibility with the older B specification. D-Link has a history of using some proprietary tweaks to increase the performance of their wireless products and I thought this might be causing problems. I tried downgrading the firmware on the router, disabling all the proprietary features, and even disabling WEP encryption, all to no avail. I feel like I’ve somehow been cheated.

I helped Mom with some of the preparations for the big day tomorrow. I vacuumed the entire house and did some dusting and cleaning. Later, we all watched Bulletproof Monk, one of the DVDs we found the other day.

Oro? Posted December 23, 2003 at 12:00 am

Work was about as unremarkable as it has ever been and about the only motivation I could find to make it through the day was the two-day vacation that would follow. I finished Rurouni Kenshin, Vol. 2. My backlog is nearly depleted now.
